Step Up Your Game - Whitewater Kayaking Program

4 - 30 days

View all Whitewater Kayaking Programs - for Intermediates|Uttarakhand

Program Description

This program is built for students who have already learned the basics of whitewater kayaking and want to raise the standard of their paddling. Time on the water is used to clean up technique, add efficiency, and grow the skills that matter once you start running harder Himalayan river sections.

Coaching happens from Shivanandi River Lodge on the Alaknanda, with river sessions chosen to push the paddler beyond their comfort zone. The aim is not another introduction to the sport — it is a step into more confident and independent paddling skills.

Season

October - June

Location

Shivanandi River Lodge, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand

Group Size

Maximum 7 participants per batch

Skill Level

Intermediate — prior whitewater kayaking experience required

Duration

4 - 30 days

Curriculum

Each day is spent working these skills on the water, with coaching that tightens technique and judgement together.

Revisiting foundational skills

Revisiting the basics

Return to foundational strokes, eddy work and boat control so the rest of the week sits on correct technique rather than old wrong habits.

Working on an efficient forward stroke in a whitewater kayak

Efficient paddling techniques

Develop a more powerful, economical forward stroke and better body rotation so longer river days feel sustainable.

Building edge awareness and brace control in moving water

Edge awareness

Learn to use edges with intention for stability, carving, and catching features instead of fighting the current.

Practising a combat roll in the kayak

Combat roll

Move the roll out of the pool and into current, so it becomes a reliable recovery tool when the river is pushing.

Scouting a rapid and reading the river before dropping in

Scouting, river reading and safety judgement

Read water from the bank and from the boat, choose lines, and make safer calls as a group on Himalayan rapids.

Kayakers paddling together on the Alaknanda River

Team dynamics

Paddle as a unit — communication, positioning, and looking after one another so the group moves well together on the river.
